Governor Blasts Obama's Intimidation Campaign

Gov. Blunt Statement on Obama Campaign’s Abusive Use of Missouri Law Enforcement

JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics.

“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouricampaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.

“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.

“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals ofJefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights.  The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.

“Barack Obama needs to grow up. Leftist blogs and others in the press constantly say false things about me and my family.  Usually, we ignore false and scurrilous accusations because the purveyors have no credibility.  When necessary, we refute them. Enlisting Missourilaw enforcement to intimidate people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition Acts - not a free society.”

It'll be interesting to see whether the Star or Post-Dispatch report on this controversy.

I hope bloggers can band together to run the ads Obama doesn't want seen.

It seems from other sources that they're calling for a police state to prevent ads by this group: http://www.americanissuesproject.org/

Is this what we can expect if Obama becomes President? We'll be stuck with the Freedom of Choice Act and lose the Freedom of Speech?

Senator Obama’s eligibility to run for President still remains very much in question. Currently, the lawsuit in federal court filed by Phillip Berg challenging Obama’s eligibility to run is continuing to move forward. Papers were served on 9/9/08 and Phillip Berg filed a motion for expedited discovery and is seeking depositions from Barack Obama and Howard Dean. Answers to the lawsuit were due from Obama and the DNC by 9/24/08 and by the FEC by 10/21/08.

Senator Obama and the DNC filed a Joint Motion to Dismiss in response to Berg's lawsuit. They waited until the very last day with only a few hours remaining to respond (deadline for response 9/24/08 midnight, actual response 9/24/08 3:30 p.m.). Their joint motion with so little time remaining to respond indicates a tactic to delay the judicial process. Though it is perfectly legal, they are not resolving the issue presented and that is whether Barack Obama is a “natural born” citizen of the U.S.

Now, Berg has 20 days to respond to their Motion to Dismiss. Though he has 20 days, he likely will respond sooner to move the process along, probably by Monday, 9/29/08. After Berg responds, the judge will consider that response and then decide to either continue with the suit or Dismiss the Motion.

This issue obviously is not fully resolved as was previously thought, though this lawsuit may go absolutely nowhere in the end. But the suit is proceeding whether it has any merit or not, whether it is frivolous or not, whether the suit will be dismissed or not. Only time will bear out which is true. Most importantly, we MUST insure that the Constitution is upheld. If Obama can prove he is truly eligible for the office of President of the United States and put to rest any and all doubts with full disclosure, let the election go forward and may the best man win. If he cannot, then he should step aside. The media tends to give Obama a pass on important issues and his involvement: Ayers, drugs, Wright. This time he needs to answer questions fully and completely.

I find it odd that this story has not yet been picked up by the mainstream media. I would think that Obama being sued in federal court is a newsworthy item. The AP picked up the suits against McCain, why not Obama? Perhaps it has not been picked up because media outlets have concluded that the suit has no merit and it is a waste of time and resources. Or, perhaps pursuit might shed light on areas that they would rather leave in the dark or because it might damage the Obama campaign through negative publicity. Either way, the questions MUST be answered fully and completely so that this issue can be put to rest. The Constitution MUST be upheld. Altering or ignoring it is one change this nation does not need.

Senator Obama and the DNC could have ended the lawsuit and removed all public doubt simply by showing Obama's birth certificate. They could have resolved the issue as early as 9/09/08. They chose not to do so. Then, they could have resolved the issue on 9/24/08. They chose not to do so again. Instead they filed a Motion to Dismiss. I have to wonder if they are not producing a birth certificate proving Obama is eligible to run for the office of the President because they cannot do so. So, here we are. We, the public, have to once again wait. The time is ticking away as we count down to the election and we may yet find ourselves in a Constitutional crisis.

With Obama's connections, I wouldn't doubt if he can "find" a birth certificate, even if it is a false one.

"I want to campaign the same way I govern, which is to respond directly and forcefully with the truth,"
~ Barack Obama, 11/08/07

Obama sure is responding directly and forecefully with the truth now, huh? Right. I just want the truth and full disclosure, but he certainly is not giving us that. I'm getting discouraged. If Obama can't be forced to prove he is eligible to run for the office of President of the United States as outlined in the Constitution, then has it been reduced to just a piece of paper? I'm just sick and sad and hope Philip Berg still has something held back to make his case.

This whole thing makes me very angry too. I am outraged to consider the possibility that Senator Obama could become President of the United States without proving that he is truly eligible to do so as outlined in the Constitution. If that is the case, then the Constitution is simply reduced to a piece of paper with some writing on it. I hold it much more dear than that and I would hope most Americans do too, no matter their chosen political party. I am outraged to think that Americans citizens do not have the standing to ask Senator Obama to prove that he is eligible to run for the office of President of the United States because he chooses instead to hide behind legal maneuvering and dancing. If We The People do not have standing, then who does?

I would think that even those who support Obama would want to seek the truth and be sure they are not part of deception and stomping on the Constitution. We are all Americans. We need to know the truth.

I am not a fan of Obama (or McCain either). However, the whole issue about Obama's citizenship was debunked a while ago. Pictures of the birth certificate are online too.

Factcheck.org, a non-partisan site, has an article about the whole thing. They have examined it up close as well. There are many, many reasons not to vote for Obama, however, his citizenship is not one of them.

That being said, don't McCulloch and Joyce have more important things to do then waste our resources on that nonsense?

Fenian, some have said that FactCheck.org has indicated that Obama’s Hawaiian birth certificate was confirmed as authentic, so there must be no question since they are supposedly an unbiased group. Let’s just forget the inconvenient truth that FactCheck is an Annenberg operation, the same group that funded the Annenberg Challenge. Yes, the same Annenberg Challenge of which Ayers and Obama were directors. So, there is absolutely no chance of a conflict of interest there, right? That can’t be, right?

Also, if you check out www.obamacrimes.com, factcheck.org is brought to task for being less than unbiased and changing images on their site. Please check it out. Sure, it may all be a load of nonsense, but I want full disclosure and the truth. If Obama will not or cannot produce a vault copy of his birth certificate, I cannot be sure we are getting that. As latinmassgirl indicates, Senator Obama has connections.

I truly don't know if FactCheck.org is an unbiased source for information, I really don't. But, I do have some doubts as indicated by my previous post. The link below shows that others do as well:

Senator McCain was born in Panama.

I am not an Obama supporter. I want to make that clear. However, the issue with his citizenship is a non-issue. It has been addressed by numerous reputable sources and has as much validity as questions about McCain being born in Panama. By debating the issues, you can easily make a case against voting for Obama. I just think this blog should be a place for facts, not debunked myths.

Also, you can argue whether or not factcheck.org is unbiased. However, please don't rely on tendentious sites such as obamacrimes.com when responding to questions of bias or impartiality.

I will vote for McCain in November, but I will hold my nose while doing it.

Fenian, I agree with you to a point. I thought the issue of non-citizenship was dead, but it appears it is not. Otherwise, there would not currently be a lawsuit in federal court going through the process. Hopefully, by the end of the day or at least by the end of the week, we will know one way or another.

I too am not a big fan of McCain, but a vote for him is a vote against Obama, which is good. Also, the addition of Sarah Palin to the ticket helped. While she is questionable in many areas, she and McCain are still better than team Obama/Biden. So, I too will hold my nose and vote for McCain.

As far as FactCheck.org being an unbiased source of information, I base my doubt on the Annenberg connection. Further info at obamacrimes.org only lends further support to my doubt.

Anonymous, yes, Senator McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone to two American citizens, one who was serving in the military at the time, which is why they were out of the U.S. to begin with. Senator McCain's situation is very different from Senator Obama's. Also, Senator McCain has been sued twice because of the question about his eligibility to serve as President due to his place of birth. The judges dismissed both suits, so McCain's eligibility to serve as President IS a dead issue.

Another interesting blog about Senator Obama's citizenship status:

This election cycle has been so up and down, at this point, nothing would surprise me. I am taking a wait-and-see approach to a lot of issues, but I can't help but wonder if the surprises are over just yet.

Philip Berg, the attorney who filed suit against Barack Obama challenging Senator Obama’s eligibility to serve as President of the United States, filed his Opposition and Brief to Obama and the DNC Joint Motion to Dismiss in the case of Berg v. Obama on 9/29/08.

Berg feels confident that he has “Standing” and the Court will allow the case to go forward. His website obamacrimes.com has received 17.1+ million hits. He urges all to spread the word about his website and to forward information to your local newspapers and radio and TV stations. Berg again stressed his position regarding the urgency of this case as, We The People, are heading to a “Constitutional Crisis” if this case is not resolved immediately.
