If a serious persecution indeed comes in the wake of the victory of the Great Obama being opposed by many Catholic Bishops, priests, and laymen, it would be a comforting thing, I think, that the Bishops know that their actions are appreciated by the faithful they serve. From Catholic Vision:
Thank Your Bishop and One Other
In the days after this election, there has been some analyses stating that Bishops who spoke out against abortion were ineffective. The implied conclusion is that the Bishops should not speak out against abortion.
Hogwash.
Whatever happened, they were forming consciences. So please take some time in the next weeks to write a "snail-mail" note of thanks to your local bishop who spoke out and at least one other. Make it a spiritual bouquet or some other spiritual offering if you wish, but let him know of your gratitude. Bishops lives are filled with many crosses, maybe you can be Veronica or the Cyrene.
To find other bishops to support, check this link from Inside Catholic. If you need "snail mail" addresses, please check the various diocesan websites.

I sent an email to Bishop Johnston here in Springfield-Cape Girardeau last night thanking him.
This is a great idea. They need to know that they have our prayers and support, I'm sure they are receiving plenty of complaints for doing what is right.
With great sadness (and bitterness) I must inform you that Archbishop Vlazny of Portland, Oregon, does not deserve a thank-you. Yes, he spoke about the election, but if you read his article (linked at his name) you will find more of the same distressing ambiguity that renders "Faithful Citizenship" so problematic. I personally know of a Catholic who used this very article to support voting for Obama -- and I'm sure it wasn't a singular case. We need many, many prayers here in this diocese and for our Archbishop. God grant him the wisdom and courage necessary to guide his flock unwaveringly towards the Truth!
