Long-rumored, now the subject of "confirmed" rumors on two blogs and an Italian newspaper, is the imminent appointment of native St. Louisan, former Auxiliary Bishop of Saint Louis and current Archbishop of Milwaukee Timothy Dolan to the See of New York.I won't over-analyze the choice, as others with more knowledge will do so, and with the understanding that New York is a delicate Archdiocesan appointment. But I will point out that Archbishop Dolan did invite the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest into the Milwaukee Archdiocese, so that alone makes the move a hopeful one for New York.

The appointment of Archbishop Dolan to New York is NOT a hopeful sign.
Timmman...
Couldn't you have used a more flattering photo of Archbishop Dolan? From the expression on his face, he appears to be in pain!

I'm interested to hear Anon's reasoning for that statement.
If Archbishop Dolan doesn't offer 'hope' for the Church in the U.S., then we're in big trouble.

If you had to take on the Archdiocese of New York and care for 12 million souls most of whom are about as Catholic as Geraldine Ferraro, you would scowl too.
Pray for the man.
I agree with you, Patrick! And the Church and society need hope!
Hoping for Cardinal Dolan!

Be careful...

and those who know, don't talk."
There could be a BROGLIO end to this story!
'Different' Anon:
Do you mean Ernie Broglio who pitched for the Cards and was traded to the Cubs for Lou Brock?
:-D

There was a blog, "Get Up and Get Moving"
http://movingcatholic.blogspot.com/
which was a good record of how things had not and have not changed in Milwaukee. My brother and sister-in-law live in Milwaukee. The horror stories continue.
God bless and be with His Excellency Archbishop Dolan. I remember Associate Pastor Father Dolan when I as an impressionable 17 year old - his homilies seemed ever to entreat us to model ourselves after our Lady. May she protect and guide him should his duties take him to New York.
