Proving that British Media Talking Heads are Arrogant Jerks, Too

Via Patrick Madrid's blog:

This is a clip of Catholic author Joanna Bogle desperately trying to talk sense to an insufferable British news host and (apparently, I'm just guessing) a British graduate of John Burroughs concerning the Pope's insistence on upholding the moral law as it relates to the grave evil of contraception. The issue of the day is the tired canard that certain types of prophylactics reduce the transmission of HIV, when the reality is the exact opposite.

She does a nice job; I particularly wanted to throw a brick at my computer screen when the uber-inflammatory and smug host accused Bogle of losing her cool.

That poor woman! She was constantly interrupted and they never even acknowledged any of her points. The condom campaign is a huge flop. How can they say that anything is safer than abstaining? Just like the push of contraceptives have actually increased out-of -wedlock births, and abortions.

The secular world is unable to accept chastity. It believes sex is an absolute right of the individual, not to be restricted in any way. This is why it cannot accept the facts Ms. Bogle is trying to voice.

But as that icon of Republican virtue, Bristol Palin, says, abstinence is not realistic. BAM! There you have it. Palin 2012, she'll tell us what to do.

Actually, the example of Bristol Palin illustrates what Joanna Bogle was saying (or trying to, in the midst of the ridicule and interruptions): that making condoms and other forms of contraception available to sexually irresponsible people does not work. What pushing contraceptives does is create the expectation of sexually irresponsible behavior.

I would rather give self-respect to my kids by telling them the truth -- that I don't just THINK they are capable of doing the right thing, I KNOW they are -- than let them down by saying "You're too stupid to control yourself, so here's a condom."

If they are going to fall, let it not be because I've pushed them.

Jane,

I agree with you. The mindset of people today is unfortunately a contraceptive mentality. Sarah Palin isn't Catholic, and sadly, most Protestants don't realize the harm of contraception. Bristol isn't going to run for Presidency, though, and that doesn't mean that Sarah agrees with her young daughter.

When I was a kid growing up Catholic, my mom just didn't talk to me about anything. She thought that since I didn't ask her, I mustn't have been interested. I was interested, and needed a strong mom, teaching me great values!

Parents, talk to your teens. They need to be told what you believe in, what you expect of them.

When the one woman stated that there was a huge push by the government and 'civil society' to advocate for 100% condom usage, was she stating that she believes that Catholics are 'uncivilized' or am I loosing something in translation? She stated this right before they were cut off for time constraints.
