Anon: Its a big leap to support a thrid party person when we, most americans (yes even traditional catholics), have grown up looking at things through a two party lense. Common wisdom says that voting for a third party cannidate is foolish.
Personally Ron Paul was a little weird for me, but next time I will likely vote for a 3rd party guy (or gal).
I just want to tell all of you fellow "right wing extremists" that my husband and I were at a very peaceful and inspiring rally at Kiener Plaza in downtown St. Louis tonight for a "Tea Party."
We were protesting government spending and excessive taxation, especially the trillions of dollars for a "stimulus" package that is being forced on us recently.
The parks service told two prominent speakers that it was estimated to be 6 to 7 thousand people there! The whole park and the sidewalks were packed! It was inspiring, and nice to know that out of the 350 Tea Parties in our country today, ours was one of the largest..
P.S. Amazingly, the main stream media were not to be seen. They must have been covering a flag burning with about 3 people there!
We went to the one of the tea parties in the Kansas City area. While they did talk about the excessive spending and over taxation, it would have been nice to hear a little more how the Obama administration is quickly trying pulling us towards socialish. The controls he is trying to exercise on the private sector are big. Unfortunately, most priests are not have any background in economic thought. While Holy Mother Church does not endorse any system of economics, she certainly does condemn socialism.
Big government spending, taking over the private sector is socialism. The St. Louis Tea party speakers did mention how Obama is leading us to socialism, and most people there were very aware of it. You are right that it needs to be said.
Most Americans don't understand that if the government spends money we don't have, this will create inflation and then higher costs, loss of jobs and homes. This will make people more dependent on government handouts which is the Obama's goal. Sadly. . .
In KC, they did talk only about big spending but did not mention things about Obama or Barney Frank and company telling private companies how to run their companies. Ronald increaded the government deficit in order to buy us out of the Cold War but was far from a socialist. Maybe my expectionations were set high. I think I just wanted to hear the tea party movement defined and talks as brilliant as someone like Fr. Sirico and Dr. Gregg (also of Acton) can give.

What's the point? What are you trying to prove?
Nice Timman!
Wow! I'm really dangerous. I got everything except the Ron Paul and the military. (Can't I get at least half a point for being an Army widow?)
It's always puzzled me that more traditional Catholics didn't support Ron Paul.
