With All Due Respect

Christoph Cardinal Schoenborn of Vienna laments the demise of Christianity in Europe

Quite right.  And he hits the nail on the head about the failure to preach on contraception.

Yet, it might have been helpful for Bishops to support the Holy Father's choice for Auxiliary Bishop of Linz, Austria, in the Cardinal's own metropolitan territory-- an orthodox Catholic priest, smeared as an extremist.  Or to support the restoration of the traditional Mass, as the Holy Father asked.  Or to speak out forcefully against the secular culture of death.  Or to unflinchingly catechize the faithful.  Or to crack down on stealth and other fake priestesses operating in the local territory.  Or to crack down on brazen liturgical abuses.  Or to proclaim the timeless truth that extra ecclesiam nulla salus instead of an ecumenism of the lowest common denominator.

Who knows?  Maybe.  It might have helped.

Excellent points. Maybe he is lamenting his own judgement.

Indeed, with all due respect....how can Bishop Schoenborn lament the demise of the effective preaching of the Good News when, through his own acts of omission, he himself has become part of the "bad news?"
