The Farce That is Democracy in America

I can do no better than copy the headline of the post in the Remnant where this video is linked. If this doesn't bother you, I don't know what else to say.

This is similar to the claim by the junta that the majority of citizens support socialized medicine, cap and trade, or whatever else is next on the agenda of what we're too stupid to know is best for us.

This video apparently is connected to ... NOTHING. There is nothing here to show what this parliamentary vote is about. Obviously, it is NOT the way an important bill is passed, e.g. the authorization to invade Iraq, health care, cap and trade ... or if it refers to the acceptance of a journal article or salue to the 16 soldiers killed yesterday in Afghanistan.

And can't even find the link on the Remnant's website.

Yes, it matters terribly what this brief debate is about - can you do a little investigation to put this in context? E.g. are you trying to get us riled up on the bill that recognized today as the national "save the blind mole day," or is this substantiv?

It was in August of 2007. So, not exactly breaking news. From what I can tell, Republicans wanted to send an agricultural appropriations bill back to committee to add in a provision barring illegal immigrants from receiving food stamps. The vote tied, but several reps changed their votes so that the motion passed. The voting closed, but then other reps changed their votes so that the motion failed. The motion was declared defeated. Republicans then insisted that the first vote was the legitimate one, only to be summarily and improperly overruled by Rep. Murtha, as seen in the video. A proposal the following day to censure Murtha was also, arguably irregularly, defeated. A House Select Committee was eventually formed to investigate these goings-on. http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=August_2007_House_voting_controversy and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_House_ Select_Committee_on_the_Voting_Irregularities_of_August_2,_2007 have more information, the censure vote video is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRwF2X1kKII.
