Declaring Pius XII Venerable Angers Jews, Says the NY Daily News

In other breaking news, water is wet.

I don't know, it seems a little outrageous to oppose the path to sainthood in a religion other than one's own by clinging to slanders and libels that have been disproven one hundred times over.

But what do I know?

The Church has bent over backwards for decades trying to clear Venerable Pius' name while reaching out to Jews. Enough already.

Santo Subito!

So, was Pius supposed to save EVERY Jew or take out Hitler himself? Would that have been enough?

I've mentioned this book before, but I will do it again. The Myth of Hitler's Pope by Rabbi Dalin is a great read.

Rabbi Dalin's book refutes the lies and distortions that are accepted as fact in much of society.

I don't get it. Roosevelt, Churchhill, Stalin, the UN and every single leader in the world were were unable to stop Adolf Hitler from doing what he did. Seriously, what is the rationale for thinking that Pope Pius XII could have possibly stopped this mad man?
It's not like Hitler answered to anyone in the universe - did they think Pope Pius XII had a direct connection to him, and Hitler would have said "Oh, okay, I'll stop doing that?"

Maybe you didn't mean it this way, but I think it is an insult to the leaders you mentioned to put Stalin in with them. Stalin did not want to stop HItler from killing the Jews. He simply wanted to take over Germany himself. Stalin ended up being responsible for the deaths of up to 14 million of his own people. He has Hitler beat.

Stalin Bad: Seriously, what history books are you reading?

The Nazi's absolutely despised Russia, and waged an incredibly ruthless war with them. Recent estimates put the total number of Russians killed by the invading Nazi Army at up to 52 million people! Every other family in Russia had an immediate family member killed by Hitler's Army.

Anon at 09:37: If that's true, it sounds like Hitler despised Russians far more than Jews - and was successful at killing over 8 times as many of them.
Maybe us in the West have it wrong - Stalin was simply trying to survive, and who could fault him for wanting to make sure Nazi Germany would never invade again?!
