I wouldn't read too much into this picture. Pope Francis was quoted as saying "If the Church stays wrapped up in itself, it will age. And if I had to choose between a wounded Church that goes out onto the streets and a sick withdrawn Church, I would definitely choose the first one."

Are we on the verge of much needed renewal? God willing. "Francis, rebuild my church."

@JBJ ... To the defense of at least some of the commenters that Dr. Marshall mentions, there is a chasm of difference between voicing one's concern, based on past facts, and uncharitable comments. "Hope that is deferred afflicteth the soul" PROV 13:12.

Indeed, he is our Pope and the one God ordained for us in this particular time of history. I don't believe any Catholic, traditional or otherwise, would disagree with that, save the Sedevacantist or heretic who are neither.

Perhaps this will be the Holy Father who moves to properly consecrate Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. For that, we can all pray.

Long pants, I know you don't read much into that picture, but I read a lot into it, and rejoice in it. I do not believe -- and I can't believe that your really think -- that His Holiness would calculatedly make an insincere gesture at such a significant moment.
