Bozek Gang Pegs the Irony Meter

The man who usurped the role of pastor at St. Stan's and his wayward flock of sheared sheep are in negotiations, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, with the Episcopal Diocese of Missouri to join up with them.

If you will recall, Mr. Bozek was reported to be fascinated with the concept of becoming allied with a Bishop, becoming a Bishop, or in some way dipping his hand into a stream of actual apostolic succession.  He has been linked in the press with Archbishop (real, though unfortunately wacky) Milingo, who in turn is linked to the Moonies.  He has tried to link with several disaffected splinter groups that wish to be called Catholic without actually being Catholic, and with some other groups that wish to be called Polish without necessarily being Polish.  Anyhow, you can search for Bozek or St. Stanislaus on the blog's search box above and spend a pleasant afternoon reading all about it.  I would recommend waiting at least an hour after food, though.

Thus, the irony meter-- if the Stan's crowd truly incorporates itself (see what I did there?) into the Episcopal Diocese, then they pick the one group whose orders were definitively declared invalid by Pope Leo XIII in 1896-- I believe the phrase was "absolutely null and utterly void".  So, in joining a group named after the word for "bishop", they get no such animal to govern them.

But that, of course is unimportant.  What they do get is gay fake marriage and genderless fake priesthood.  Got to keep your priorities straight, if nothing else.  If not, who knows what could happen?  As Tim Townsend wrote in his article linked above,

...as recently as last summer[2008], Bozek disparaged independent Catholic groups that, as it turns out, he was a member of at the time. "With all due respect for the independent Catholic movement, it's full of weirdos," he told the Post-Dispatch ...

Gotta fix that meter.  Stand by...

I wonder if the Episcopals will be wary of the, um, independent streak, of this group of people. That said, TEC seems to be the right affiliation for all that the St Stans' crowd professes.

Wow. I apologize in advance for the irreverence of invoking an analogy from something so profane as sports to describe matters of salvation, but this is kinda like Brock (Traditional Anglican Communion ordinariates et al.) for Broglio (Bozek et al.), no?

It will be interesting to see whether the Anglican hierarchy seriously considers this and allows entrance to the new St. Stan's crowd.

Hmmm...

We get George Rutler, they get Alberto Cutie.

We get the All Saints Sisters, they get ex-Dominican Matthew Fox.

We get three dozen traditional Anglican parishes, they get St. Stan's.

On the whole, a reasonable trade.

Of all the Catholic parishes in the history of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, why did St. Stanislaus get "special treatment" when it was established? Was it a compromise to keep the church from joined the Polish National Catholic Church?
