On the Other Hand

The UK Telegraph blogs that Pope Francis signed off on an excommunication decree against a pro-sodomitical-union priest in Australia.  The blog post is somewhat short on specifics, but parsing the politically tilted language of the original article it cites here, one could surmise the priest was also schismatic.  Well, let's light a candle anyway, shall we?

And our beloved Cardinal Burke states outright that Nancy Pelosi should be denied Holy Communion until she renounces her pro-death politics, going farther than her local ordinary will go.

Unfortunately the charity of his Grace falls on deaf ears, not only Pelosi's but that other Grace, Wuerl.

But, when necessity compels, not those only who are invested with power of rule are bound to safeguard the integrity of faith, but, as St. Thomas maintains: ‘Each one is under obligation to show forth his faith, either to instruct and encourage others of the faithful, or to repel the attacks of unbelievers.’” Pope Leo XIII

2272 Formal cooperation in an abortion constitutes a grave offense. The Church attaches the canonical penalty of excommunication to this crime against human life. CCC

Does not this apply to Ms. Pelosi and by extension to Bp Wuerhl? I almost see that the bishop is committing the same grave error. Although it is not for me to judge hearts and minds, as a layperson and member of the flock, I am intelligent enough and concerned enough for the souls involved (which are too many to count) to see the damage being done by the lack of assertive shepherding in that diocese and others.
