You have seen the above image of Our Lord's Sacred Heart many times before on this blog. That is because it is one of my particular favorites, and a copy of it hangs in my home. The original is in the Konvent Herz Jesu in Bayerisch Gmain, Germany, an apostolate of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest, where the Society of the Sacred Heart--the lay society of the Institute-- has its annual retreat.
Today is a beautiful feast of the love of Christ. The Litany says it well. The Heart of Jesus, made obedient unto death, glutted with reproaches, and victim of sin, is the desire of the everlasting hills, the source of life and holiness, and the salvation of all who trust in it.
Masses at the Oratory today at 8am and 6:30pm.
From today's preface:
It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to Thee, holy Lord, Father almighty, eternal God: Whose will it was that Thine only-begotten Son, while hanging on the cross, should be pierced by the soldier's lance: that the Heart thus opened should, as from a well of divine bounty, pour over us streams of mercy and of grace: and that the Heart which never ceased to burn with love for us, should be for the devout a haven of rest and for the penitent an open refuge of salvation.
