'Lord, give me strength to follow Thee unto death!'

"Mother," she one day said to the Prioress, "were I unfaithful, were I to commit even the smallest infidelity, I feel that my soul would be plunged into the most terrible anguish, and I should be unable to welcome death."

Mother Prioress evinced surprise at hearing her speak in this strain, and she continued: "I am speaking of infidelity in the matter of pride. If, for example, I were to say: 'I have acquired such or such a virtue and I can practise it'; or again: 'My God, Thou knowest I love Thee too much to dwell on one single thought against faith,' straightway I should be assailed by the most dangerous temptations and should certainly yield. To prevent this misfortune I have but to say humbly and from my heart: 'My God, I beseech Thee not to let me be unfaithful.'

"I understand clearly how St. Peter fell. He placed too much reliance on his own ardent nature, instead of leaning solely on the Divine strength. Had he only said: 'Lord, give me strength to follow Thee unto death!' the grace would not have been refused him.

"How is it, Mother, that Our Lord, knowing what was about to happen, did not say to him: 'Ask of Me the strength to do what is in thy mind?' I think His purpose was to give us a twofold lesson--first: that He taught His Apostles nothing by His presence which He does not teach us through the inspirations of grace; and secondly: that, having made choice of St. Peter to govern the whole Church, wherein there are many sinners, He wished him to test in himself what man can do without God's help. This is why Jesus said to him before his fall: 'Thou being once converted confirm thy brethren';[23] that is, 'Tell them the story of thy sin--show them by thy own experience, how necessary it is for salvation to rely solely upon Me.'"

Events are Telescoping

The thud you heard when Ireland submitted to the sodomite zeitgeist was real.

The reasons for the thud are mostly symbolic. A Western European nation putting into law its own suicide wish hardly qualifies as news these days. But for Ireland-- Ireland, for Paddy's sake-- to so enthusiastically cast off the natural law in favor of Sodom, with a stick in the eye of Holy Mother Church to boot, well that is just as depressing a symbol of how far we have fallen as I can think of.

I remember thinking in law school, back in the early '90s, when it became more obvious that the issue of equal rights for sodomy was the wedge issue of the left, that it was a grand overreach that would surely backfire. I mean, abortion, contraception, divorce-- these were all evils that involved the more-or-less natural relationship of man and woman, and people of the time would not have thought to put the act of sodomy on the level of marriage. It was only about that time that state criminal statutes against sodomy were being debated for repeal. Calling repeated sodomy "marriage" was beyond the pale.

How naive I was, because of course the illogic of contraception and divorce lead directly to sodomy and worse.

And how much do I wish to cite this naivete when I invite you to consider our imminent, miserable future. It took less than twenty years for sodomy to go from criminalized to human right. It will take far less than that to take real marriage from human right to criminalized.

By that I mean, that those who actually act on the reality of what marriage is will be locked up. As the state will determine their views are unfit for children to believe, their children will be taken away from them. As faithful Catholic priests will refuse to go along with denying the truth of marriage, they will be locked up. You want the sacraments? Try getting them without priests.

Mystics have predicted the cessation of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass as a sign of the end. "They will look for the red lamp in the sanctuary in vain." Well, maybe the sacrifice can take place in the priests' cells, but how are you going to go to Mass?

And all to the world's rejoicing.  You see, you had it coming all along, you bigots.

Making the gall of this all the more bitter, the majority of the hierarchs in the Church will stand by and let you suffer. Most mildly deploring the means of punishment, but not the fact of it. Some will cheer it on.

You doubt this?

Consider the absolute lack of moral leadership in Ireland that led to this event. Consider the decay of morality brought about by a lack of catechesis and moral authority, brought on by an abandonment of the proper worship of God in the liturgy. Self-identified Catholics are pro-sodomy, pro-contraception, pro-divorce in more or less the same percentages as the pagan culture.

This state of affairs is simply untenable.

Events are telescoping now.

Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us!

Eventually They Won't Stand for This

And by eventually I mean sooner than you think.

About what am I talking? Homeschooling-- its success and its growth.

Homeschooling produces independent thinkers, or at least thinkers not taught the "correct" dogmas of the secular anti-Christian culture. I have heard one speaker (I cannot remember his name, sorry) refer to homeschooling as the "education of free men". That is spot-on.

Some do it well, some do it not-so-well. But the point is that it isn't the indoctrination of Leviathan's choosing.

When homeschoolers are such a minority that they pass as virtually nonexistent or quirky like a subset of Amish, they are tolerated easily enough.  Like, "Oh, how cute, a homeschooler won the spelling bee!"  But when they go from far fewer than one percent of the school age population to 3.5 to 5%, and when they have greater success against established school systems, it is a far different matter. Like, "Can you believe that homeschool co-op beat MICDS, Priory, Kirkwood and 61 other state high schools for the state Mock Trial Championship? Must have been out of pity. We need to look into that."

But there are greater factors than mere embarrassment at work here, some mundane and some not. First, the educational system is ruled over by unions.  Unions love job security for their members, which means dues for the leaders. Everyone fat and happy.  In order to justify teachers and administrators, there must be students. If the number of homeschoolers reaches a critical mass, then the security of unions will be at stake.

Secondly, when the powers that be wish to teach falsehoods as truth, it is vital that everyone be brainwashed into thinking falsehoods are truth-- or, to be more accurate, to teach students to avoid thinking at all. This is accomplished by occluding truth and emphasizing feelings, both emotional and animalistic.  If a few people opt out, no big deal, but if, say, a third opt out, that will expose the system for what it is.

And the system will fail.

Finally, though homeschooling is not necessarily Christian, and many people homeschool for academics alone, it is typically Christian.  If you haven't noticed, Christians are marked for extinction, either through apostasy or, failing that, by what one might call the final solution. Think I'm overreacting?  Too bad.

And so here we are.  Homeschoolers are safe enough at 1% of the population. Perhaps they would be if they reach 25%, too.

The real threat occurs when they reach 5%, with every sign of continued growth. That time is now.

It will be targeted for extinction by the powers that be. Truancy laws, Common Core, UN Treaties that invade on parental rights, sodomite indoctrination, worries of "homegrown terrorists" and "safety" drills targeting dangerous homeschoolers: all these are early means to squelch it. If they won't work to limit the numbers of homeschoolers, look for more drastic means to come.

"Wanna get married? Do it now"

Look out your window, baby, there’s a scene you’d like to catch
The band is playing “Dixie,” a man got his hand outstretched
Could be the Führer
Could be the local priest
You know sometimes Satan comes as a man of peace

He got a sweet gift of gab, he got a harmonious tongue
He knows every song of love that ever has been sung
Good intentions can be evil
Both hands can be full of grease
You know that sometimes Satan comes as a man of peace

Well, first he’s in the background, then he’s in the front
Both eyes are looking like they’re on a rabbit hunt
Nobody can see through him
No, not even the Chief of Police
You know that sometimes Satan comes as a man of peace

Well, he catch you when you’re hoping for a glimpse of the sun
Catch you when your troubles feel like they weigh a ton
He could be standing next to you
The person that you’d notice least
I hear that sometimes Satan comes as a man of peace

Well, he can be fascinating, he can be dull
He can ride down Niagara Falls in the barrels of your skull
I can smell something cooking
I can tell there’s going to be a feast
You know that sometimes Satan comes as a man of peace

He’s a great humanitarian, he’s a great philanthropist
He knows just where to touch you, honey, and how you like to be kissed
He’ll put both his arms around you
You can feel the tender touch of the beast
You know that sometimes Satan comes as a man of peace

Well, the howling wolf will howl tonight, the king snake will crawl
Trees that’ve stood for a thousand years suddenly will fall
Wanna get married? Do it now
Tomorrow all activity will cease
You know that sometimes Satan comes as a man of peace

Somewhere Mama’s weeping for her blue-eyed boy
She’s holding them little white shoes and that little broken toy
And he’s following a star
The same one them three men followed from the East

I hear that sometimes Satan comes as a man of peace

Huxley Was Too Modest

I immediately thought of Brave New World when I saw this story. I really think the exciting combination of Orwell's and Huxley's visions that we are to experience in the near, near future will be something to write about-- assuming anyone Catholic lives to do so.

"Going to the Feelies this evening, Henry?" enquired the Assistant Predestinator. "I hear the new one at the Alhambra is first-rate. There's a love scene on a bearskin rug; they say it's marvellous. Every hair of the bear reproduced. The most amazing tactual effects."

Vigil of the Ascension

At that time, Jesus lifting up His eyes to Heaven said: Father, the hour is come; glorify Thy Son, that Thy Son may glorify Thee, as Thou hast given Him power over all flesh, that He may give eternal life to all whom Thou hast given Him. Now this is eternal life: that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent. I have glorified Thee on the earth; I have finished the work which Thou gavest Me to do; and now glorify Thou Me, O Father, with Thyself, with the glory which I had, before the world was, with Thee. I have manifested Thy Name to the men whom Thou hast given Me out of the world. Thine they were, and to Me Thou givest them, and they have kept Thy word. Now they have known that all things which Thou hast given Me are from Thee: because the words which Thou gavest Me, I have given to them: and they have received them, and have known in very deed that I came out from Thee, and they have believed that Thou didst send Me. I pray for them; I pray not for the world, but for them whom Thou hast given Me; because they are Thine: and all My things are Thine, and Thine are Mine: and I am glorified in them. And now I am not in the world, and these are in the world, and I come to Thee.

Fatima is the Key to Our Day

I want to thank Rorate Caeli for posting this translation of an article in Famiglia Domani about Fatima. It says everything necessary, and everything well. Please read it, and join in the Rosary Novena going on through June 23 for the consecration of Russia. Time is ticking:

Francesca Bonadonna
Famiglia Domani
May 22, 2014

Almost a century has passed since the great Fatima event when Our Lady, messenger of God, appeared to the three little shepherds to give an immensely important message and to offer Her maternal intercession for a humanity afflicted by sin - a humanity, more narcotized than ever by creeping secularization, Most Holy Mary is the Queen of the eagerly awaited kingdom, foreseen according to Her promise and unforeseen according to its time and modality; the hope of a new millennium for the children of Light i.e. the militant forces of the People of God moved by the Holy Ghost amid the breakers of unrest and disorder but heading towards the safe harbor described in St. John Bosco’s dream, which points to the two pillars of salvation: the Holy Eucharist and the Virgin Mary.

In 1917 at the Cova da Iria, Our Lady launched a strong, clear message - a message that very few have accepted into their lives: the Consecration to Her Immaculate Heart, unfulfilled, according to the instructions given to Sister Lucia, for us to avoid the errors of communism and the outcome of wars and persecutions to Holy Church and the Holy Father. Human weakness and the failed response to the Divine call have irremediably determined the frightful, perverse scenario of our times of which we are helpless onlookers.

This frightful scenario is like an overflowing river that engulfs us each day, crossing our paths, our squares, our cities, our country and the entire world. The TV channels and radio stations are polluted by a cesspit of lies, where there is nothing that refers to God for the edification of society: on the contrary, we have promoters of easy conquests like the non-fulfilling politicians and statesmen, at the service of skilful direction, who make false promises which shortly after come to nothing.

A crisis that was foreseen and made known in 1917, is now full-blown: at little less than a century away we are at the countdown for the shortening of these times of iniquity, prepared by the false myths of science which, more than ever, dare to challenge God’s creative omnipotence by changing and shunning the natural law based on the procreative action of the family, the only source of life and the only school of universal, perennial values.

An induced disorientation, that displaces the best consciences and confounds the toughest intellects, blinded by their lust for power and fame, led astray by the satanic illusion of false promises that depart from the service of the good to which we must be devoted until the end. Our Lady spoke to the three little shepherds in order ‘to scatter the proud in the imagination of their hearts and exalt the humble’, in a time of apostasy activated to annul the dogma of the Faith and turn absolute truths upside down. It is the Church that suffers because of the betrayal of Her ministers who, having been sucked into the vortex of corruption, drive the sheep away from the fold, helpless as they are, to discern the voice of their shepherd.

We are on the threshold of the Great Promise of Fatima, that of the Woman Clothed with the Sun, at the dawn of a new era of peace: She, who will triumph with a sudden mysterious act and will clothe humanity in a new light - the radiant light of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Spouse of Christ, who continuously prays, cries and suffers with His Church, for the loss of Her children, hoping to the very last for their salvation, as a mother does on the threshold of giving birth to new life.

Algún Día

Prosecutor Writes Letter to Fr. Lockwood's Parishioners

I guess this is America.

The Jackson County Prosecutor has seen fit to write a letter directly to the parishioners of Christ the King Parish to counter the letter of the pastor, Fr. Gregory Lockwood, who wrote to them in support of Bishop Robert Finn.

Just wrap your mind around this, people.  A pastor writes a letter to his flock, giving his opinion about a Church matter involving their bishop. First, SNAP wants him disciplined. Now, a county prosecutor uses the power of her office to attempt to refute him. Why?  Because the Church cannot be allowed to support a faithful bishop against the secular power, no matter the reason.

You see, Fr. Lockwood has committed Thoughtcrime, and after the Ministry of Truth has stated it wants him thrown down the memory hole, we now hear from the Ministry of Love with a not-so-subtle shot across the bow.

This letter, and Fr. Lockwood's original letter, can be read in full at the link above.  But here are some key excerpts with my commentary.  It begins this way:

"The recent letter sent out by your pastor laid out misinformation regarding State of Missouri v. Robert Finn.  This letter is to address some of those misstatements."

Where exactly is the Jackson County budget line to cover direct appeal letters from the Prosecutor to ordinary citizens in order to make sure everyone tows the party line?  And can we assume that Jackson County will provide Fr. Lockwood with the funds to reach every reader of the Kansas City Star in order to respond to this extraordinary letter?

Hello?  A governmental prosecutor is writing to citizens directly in order to rebuke someone who disagrees with her!  Is this OK with you?

But, Dear Reader, don't worry. She went to Catholic schools:

"I was raised in the Catholic faith and attended Catholic schools. My education was guided by Catholic nuns who ran a disciplined school in a four-room schoolhouse for grades one through eight..."

And so on. It is so common a tactic as to be unremarkable that whenever someone dissents from the Church, holds the Church up to ridicule, disavows the Church, or persecutes the Church, they make sure to establish their pew-cred by citing their oh-so-Catholic education.  I say it again: if there is any greater indictment of Catholic education since the '60s than the ungrateful treatment by, and illogical thought of, its alumni, I don't know what it is.

Great.  So, she went to Catholic schools.  Check.  Loves those nuns. Check.

And, don't be fooled, she assures parishioners in this direct popular appeal to them, she is not motivated by politics:

"I run this office as a prosecutor, not a politician..."

[...]"Having the courage to stand up to those in power and hold dangerous criminals accountable for their behavior is a necessary component of the position of prosecutor."

Is that her description of Bishop Finn?  A dangerous criminal? Really?

And so, with a final appeal that someone please, please think of the children, she ends.

I'm glad this former Democratic State Representative who was previously endorsed by NARAL Pro-Choice America (what used to be known as the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League) took the time to assure parishioners she wasn't politically motivated and that the well-being of children is so important.

As for Fr. Lockwood, as you can imagine, he is under considerable fire for daring to speak his mind. He could use your prayers.  As you may know, he is a married priest ordained with Vatican permission, and has a family.  Without going into details, his family has had its share of difficulties that make him the last person who would be soft on sexual predators.  But that is beside the point of this letter which, regardless of the sincerity of the prosecutor in her claims, is in effect an effort to intimidate the Church and her pastors.

Hope you're OK with that.

God Bless Christopher Ferrara

I wish my brain worked half as well. I wish my efforts did half as much good. I wish my fighting spirit were half as strong.

He has responded to uphold the reputation of Fr. Gruner, RIP, against slander. His latest effort is here. If that fails to satisfy, knock yourself out here.

Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.

There is an ongoing 54-day Rosary Novena for the Holy Father to Consecrate Russia to Mary's Immaculate Heart, as she requested at Fatima. Time is ticking, we need Our Lady. It started May 1 and will go to June 23. Join now anyway-- Our Lady is not a bureaucrat.

Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us!

There is Never Enough Blood to Satisfy the Enemies of the Church

The group SNAP, which uses the sex abuse scandals in the Church as the cudgel for promoting itself and its own agenda, has moved into the truly Orwellian today.  Not content with the sacrifice of Bishop Robert Finn, the Kansas City leader of SNAP is calling for the disciplining of Fr. Gregory Lockwood for the grave crime of defending Bishop Finn in print.

Thoughtcrime.  Hate speech.

You see, a faithful bishop cannot even be defended by a faithful Catholic priest or layman publicly, or they'll go after him, too.

SNAP has decided that Bishop Finn is a bad man.  Therefore, anyone who defends him must also be a bad man.  We see this line of "reasoning" in other contexts these days by other groups with similar tactics:  Bake that cake! Perform that sodomite marriage! Desecrate that Eucharist! Offer up that incense to Moloch!

Or else.

The SNAP press release is excerpted below, and I have (several responses):

MO--Victims want KC priest disciplined for defending Finn

(Oh yes, the "victims" want this.  Not the professional victim-creators, oh no.)

In a stunningly (not) callous letter to his parishioners, a Kansas City pastor is (not) misleading Catholics, (not) re-victimizing adults and (not) endangering kids by (not) deceptively defending a convicted bishop and attacking the motives of those who feel betrayed by him.

(On the contrary.  The only people in this incident who are seeking to make political hay out of, and "re-victimize" those who may have been abused, are those whose very mission depends upon the existence of abuse victims.  Fr. Lockwood's letter is not misleading and is in fact quite charitable.  But what's one more good man to destroy?)

In a letter to members of Christ the King parish on Wornall Road (written on church letterhead), Fr. Gregory Lockwood claims that Bishop Robert Finn faced a “politically motivated charge” filed by “an ambitious prosecutor with strong ties to the abortion industry.”

(That is absolutely true.)

The priest also claims that in the Fr. Shawn Ratigan case, church officials “never had any impulse to cover up.”

Fr. Lockwood also claims that many of those who are upset with Finn are “nasty,” say “mean” and “vicious” things about him and part of a “mob scene.” (Quod erat demonstrandum.)

“The issue was never the Ratigan affair,” Fr. Lockwood writes, but rather some sort of ideological crusade because Finn is conservative. He thus impugns the motives of those who care about kids, about truth and about deterring crimes by holding criminals accountable.

(The motives of many of them are very much up for some well-deserved scrutiny. Bravo to Fr. Lockwood for saying so.)

This is wrong and hurtful on so many levels. ("Wrong and hurtful". Welcome to the level of public discourse in 21st Century America.)

And third, it endangers kids by fostering a hostile climate for victims, witnesses and whistleblowers, making it less likely that child molesters – clergy or otherwise – will be reported, exposed, prosecuted, convicted and kept away from kids.

Somewhere in Christ the King parish there’s a 14 year old girl who is being molested by her uncle. He tells her “If you speak up, no one will believe you.” Then she sees her pastor, Fr. Lockwood, publicly defending a proven enabler. She decides “My uncle is right. Adults side with adults. I won’t be believed. I’ll keep my mouth shut.”

And her abuse continues.

(Wow. I don't know whether to be more amazed that Fr. Lockwood holds such sway in the reporting of abuse by his letter writing activities, or that SNAP knows that somewhere in Christ the King parish there is someone who is being molested by her uncle.  Do they really know and have decided not to report it themselves, or is this some kind of clumsy rhetorical device? Is it possible they have already put out next year's abuse statistics for SNAP fundraising efforts?)

Archbishop Joseph Naumann should publicly and harshly discipline Fr. Lockwood to deter this kind of callousness now and in the future.

(Drivel, plain and simple.)

Readers, this is just repugnant.  A new low for SNAP, whatever that's worth.

Time to Reflect on the Vendée

These videos of a presentation by the inimitable Ann Barnhardt to a group of Tea Party types in Colorado back in 2012 have been available for quite awhile now.  Be that as it may, they make timely viewing now, in light of the state of the "culture", the collapse of the strength and vitality of the the Church's hierarchy throughout the world, and the increasingly aggressive nature of the enemies of God.  If it seems too long, focus on videos three and four.  Ignore the political nature of the group to whom she speaks-- Ann quickly moves beyond the political, and I'm sure a lot of these God bless America citizens had their minds well and truly blown.

Dieu Le Roi!
