Second Call for the Forty Hours

Hello-- it is day two of the call for Eucharistic Adorers during the upcoming Forty Hours. Thanks to all who signed up here and by calling the Oratory rectory. Please, we need more of you:

St. Francis de Sales Oratory is again holding its annual observance of the Forty Hours devotion before Lent, and is seeking St. Louis-area faithful to keep vigil with Our Lord for an hour during this time.

The Forty Hours begin after 10 am Solemn High Mass on Sunday, February 22, 2009 and conclude with 6:30 pm Solemn High Mass on Tuesday, February 24, 2009.

There are three Solemn High Masses within the 40 Hours’ Devotion

- Sunday Quinquagesima at 10 am as a Votive Mass of the Blessed Sacrament with Procession and Litany of the Saints

- Monday at 6:30 pm as a Votive Mass Pro Pace

- Tuesday at 6:30 pm as a Votive Mass of the Blessed Sacrament

In addition: Low Masses at 8:00 am and 12:10 pm on Monday and Tuesday.

The Institute would be grateful for the faithful to cover one-hour blocks within the following time frames:

Sunday, February 22: 12pm to 6pm

Monday and Tuesday, February 23 & 24: 8 am to 6 pm.

Please sign up in the combox at the bottom of the post. The Oratory will monitor the responses and add you to the schedule. You do NOT need to be a member of the Oratory to sign up.

UPDATE: if you prefer not to put your name in the combox, that is ok, too-- just leave your time taken in the combox and call the rectory at the number below to leave your name.

Just arrive at the time to which you commit, or else call the rectory at 314-771-3100 if there is some change. Address, contact information and directions are at the Oratory's link, above.

Don't worry if you want to cover a time that you already see someone post; the Rector of the Oratory welcomes as many for each hour as wish to come.

God bless you for your generosity, and may He reward you abundantly this Lent with an abundance of graces. Thank you.

P.S. I will bump and update this thread as needed.

UPDATE: Ash Wednesday schedule at the Oratory:
8:00 am low Mass with Distribution of Ashes
12:10 pm low Mass with Distribution of Ashes
6:30 pm Solemn High Mass with Distribution of Ashes

Don't everybody comment all at once, now...

Thanks, timman, for continuing to call faithful souls to spend time with Our Lord as He call us to "watch with Me" during these 40 Hours of pre-Lent prep-time.

I want to go again this year, and my husband as well, but we are having difficulty with attending only during the hours posted. I can see not keeping the church open at night for the public, but many people have to be at work by 8:00 so would like earlier hours, such as from 5:30 AM.

Don't forget to inform the Dominican brothers at Jesuit Hall Priory about the 40 hours. They might not know about it since they have their own regular places of assignment for Sunday. For the past few years their Prior has been an outstanding supporter of Eucharistic adoration throughout our Saint Louis area.

I believe the Dominican Prior to whom you are referring has been transferred to Rome. We haven't seen him at St. FdSales for several months now. There must be a new one; don't know him.
